One for the Money, Two for the Show

Eugene, OR – In their second game of the 2006-07 season, the Eugene Generals (2-0) crushed the River City Jaguars(0-2) 9-2 at Lane Events Center tonight. The Generals have appeared to shake off the first game rust, and were rolling from the first drop of the puck. “Our guys were able to control the flow of the game tonight, and it showed on the scoreboard,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We didn’t play as well as we wanted to yesterday, but our guys stepped it up tonight and were able to get a decisive victory.”

If there was one question on the Generals minds entering the season, it would have had to have been the production of the seven rookie skaters. However, that question was answered with the red light tonight versus the Jaguars. In the Generals season opener last night, not one Generals rookie put up a point on the board. Tonight, four of the Generals nine goals came from rookie shots, two of which came from Steven Slattery. Tyler Tymchuk and Desi Ritari were both able to get the puck past the Jaguar goaltender in their first game for the Generals. The veterans didn’t slack off, though. Ryan Schank added two goals for himself, and Garrett Bossert, Matt Vasilie, and Ben Tikka also scored goals.

The Generals dominated play from the beginning, but were only able to score once in the first period. The Generals were able to pull in the second period, however, scoring six goals to make the margin 7-1. The Generals crushed the Jaguars in every category, including out shooting River City 46-16. Tonight’s game proved that the Generals have the talent to overpower the River City team, but the Generals will face the Jaguars eight more times this season and only time will tell if the Generals can keep their eight game winning streak against the Jags alive.

The Generals will face the Seattle Junior Totems (0-2) next Friday and Saturday at OlympicView Ice Arena. For more information on upcoming Eugene Generals games please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
