The Eugene Generals (23-11) march into this weekend’s games with fifth place River City (10-25) tied for first in the NOR-PAC Western Division with Puget Sound (23-11). This may seem like the Generals should at least win both games, and at worst finish the weekend tied for first place. That is not the case, however, as the Generals top four scoring leaders, and the Generals top scoring defenseman, are participating in the 2006 USA Hockey National Junior B Showcase.
The Generals are sending the most players of any NOR-PAC team to the Showcase in Chicago, IL with five. The five players selected from the Generals are Generals Captain Ryan Schank, Generals Assistant Captains Garrett Bossert and Ben Tikka, NOR-PAC scoring leader Kris Kranzky, and Michael Frei. Frei is the youngest player on the 22 man roster, but he boasts the fifth most points in NOR-PAC this year. “Everybody in the organization is excited to send this many players to the Showcase,” Generals Head Coach Robert Freeland stated. “The Showcase is going to be crawling with Junior A and College scouts, and it’s a great opportunity for our guys to get looked at.”
River City will be hunting for a win with the depleted Generals roster, and their slim, but still mathematically possible, playoff chances. The remaining Generals will have to fight for every point this weekend, and play two full sixty minute games.
The games this weekend will be broadcast live on GiTV on www.eugenegenerals.com. For more information on upcoming Generals games please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
