Strong Third Propels Generals

Eugene, OR – The NORPAC Pacific Division third place Eugene Generals (24-9) scored four unanswered goals in the third period to edge Coeur d’Alene (5-30) 5-1 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals didn’t play their best hockey of the season, but were able to walk away from the contest with two points. The Generals have now won seven consecutive games against the Lakers, and will be looking to sweep the season series tomorrow night.

“Although I’m very pleased with the outcome of the game, I’m disappointed with our performance tonight,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “I always like to win, but at the same time I hate seeing my team perform poorly. Hopefully tomorrow our guys will show up, and perform the way they should every night to ensure the series and weekend sweep.”

Former Rogue Valley Wranglers leading scorer, Nate Schursky, scored his first goal in his just 7:39 into his first game with the Generals. The Lakers were able to get on the board in the second period, and the Generals would get on the board until the third period.

Tyler Tymchuk scored the go ahead goal 1:36 into the final period with assists from Steven Slattery and Justin Adams. Michael Frei scored the next two for the Generals putting up a shorthanded and powerplay goal. Frei’s powerplay goal was the most spectacular goal scored by the Generals this season. Frei had a breakaway opportunity after a spectacular long pass from Trent McKee. Frei was almost to the net when he was pulled down from behind, but still managed to pop the puck over Lakers goaltender, Brian Gomez, while sliding on his stomach. Ben Wilks tallied the fifth, and final, Generals goal in his first game back after being sidelined with an upper body injury for two months.

The Generals will attempt the sweep tomorrow night at Lane Events Center-Ice at 7:35 PM. The game will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
