Generals Routed by Totems Again

Mountlake Terrace, WA – The Eugene Generals (10-5) gave up eight goals for a second straight night, as the Seattle Totems (14-1) crushed the Generals 8-2 tonight at Olympicview Ice Arena. The special teams woes continue for the Generals as they failed to score on 15 powerplay opportunities, and gave up two powerplay goals and two shorthanded goals. The Totems were able to chase the Generals starting goaltender for the second straight night, and tonight’s victim was Kevin Aslett, who gave up five goals on 23 shots.

“I expected us to play better than we did last night, and we just didn’t do that,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We couldn’t score on the powerplay, and we couldn’t keep them from scoring on their, or our, opportunities. We have a lot to work on, and that will start tomorrow.”

Michael Frei did have two goals for the second straight night, and was able to score four of the Generals five goals on the weekend. The Generals were able to hold the Totems to two goals in the first period, but gave up three more in the first ten minutes of the second period. The Generals were once again faced with a four goal deficit in the second period, and it proved to be to much for them to overcome.

The two bright spots for the Generals were third year forward Michael Frei, and rookie goaltender Kevin Aslett. Frei was able to put two pucks in the net to give him three goals on the season. Frei has been looking for a breakout performance, and this might have been that game even though it was a loss. Kevin Aslett was able to stop the bleeding, and only allow three goals in two period of work. Aslett stopped 24 of the Totems 27 shots in the second and third period.

The Generals look to have the talent to play with the Totems, but must realize that they can play with Seattle if they want to avenge the two losses this weekend. The Generals will face the Puget Sound Tomahawks next Friday and Saturday at 7:35 PM in Bremerton, WA. Both games will be broadcast on GiTV in audio only.
