Generals Defenseman Strahle Gets Called Up
Eugene, OR – John Strahle, a 6-2 195 lb. 19 year old defenseman from Anchorage, AK, was called up to the North American Hockey League’s Alaska Avalanche early this morning. Strahle has played ten games for the Generals and has one goal and seven assists. Strahle has been a big part of the Generals eight game winning streak, and he will try to do the same for the 3-7-1 Avalanche.
“John has very good size and great skill, which isn’t something you see every day,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “He is one of the toughest players we’ve had on the team, and is able to play through a lot of pain. He has shown the dedication to the success of the Generals that is every coach’s dream, and I believe he will be that he will be that type of player for the Avalanche.
Strahle will also be able to help the Avalanche in the +/- category. The Avalanche only have two defensemen that are + on the season, and Strahle is fourth on the Generals with a +10 rating. Strahle hasn’t been - for a game since September 15, which was the Generals first game of the season. Strahle is also third on the team hits, averaging almost six per game.
Strahle will be missed by the Generals, but the Generals jump at any opportunity to move players to higher levels. The Generals focus on developing players, and when everybody does their job players move on to be developed at the NAHL, BCHL and USHL levels.
