Frei, Generals Franchise Point Leader, Returns to Team
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (8-3) all-time point leader, Michel Frei, returned to the team early this morning after a stint with the Alaska Avalanche of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). Frei, a 5-10 175 lb. native of Dubendorf, SUI, had one assist in five games with the Avalanche, but will be coming back to the team where he had 166 points, 75 of which were goals, in 96 games.
“We’re extremely happy to have Michael back with the team,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We always hope that the players who move on are able to stick, but the addition of Michael adds an instant scoring threat to our team. Besides all the skill and tools he brings to the table for us immediately, it also lets the other players on the team know that they have to give it all they have to not only compete for playing time, but also for their spot on the team. Players could come in at any time, and once our guys see the skill of Frei I think they’ll realize the kind of players we might have coming to the team.”
Frei led the Generals in goals (31) and assists (42) last season, and couldn’t have come to the Generals at a better time. The Generals will face the second place Tri-City Titans (8-3) this weekend, and the first place Seattle Totems (11-1) next weekend. The Generals will have a chance to break the second place tie with the Titans if they can win both games this weekend.
The 3rd Annual Eugene Generals Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Prime Med Medical Clinic is this Friday, and the Generals have yet to lose a game wearing pink jerseys. Michael Frei will be the only player who has played in all three Breast Cancer Awareness Nights, and gives the Generals an even better chance to make sure the Generals pick up their third win in the three year history of the event.
The Generals will try to break the franchise record for wins (9) this Friday at the 3rd Annual Eugene Generals Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Prime Med Medical Clinic against the Tri-City Titans at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals will also host the Titans this Saturday at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice. Both games will be broadcast on GiTV.
