Strong First Period Pushes Generals past Wranglers

Medford, OR – The Eugene Generals (7-3) came out of the gates hard tonight, scoring five goals in the first period, and it proved to be too much for the Rogue Valley Wranglers (o-8) as they defeated the team from Medford, OR 7-3. The Generals struggled to put up points in the second and third period, but were able to hold on for their seventh win in a row. The slow second and third periods were very disappointing to the Generals after the dominating performance against the Puget Sound Tomahawks on Saturday, and the dominating performance in the first period tonight.

“I’m very disappointed that we weren’t able to finish the game with the same domination that we stared with,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We played great hockey four periods in a row and that all went out the window in the second period tonight. We can never take a win for granted, and we have to know when to put that final nail in the coffin. We have the potential to be a dominant team when we play sixty minutes of hockey, but we have only been able to do that once.”

The Generals did have once very nice surprise, as they were able to capitalize on three of their four powerplay opportunities. The Generals did commit seven penalties in the second period, and that allowed the Wranglers to get back into the game. Rogue Valley had twelve powerplay opportunities, to Eugene’s four, and the Wranglers were able to put two powerplay goals on the board.

Six Generals had multiple point nights. Kyle Mills led the way with four points (1 G, 3 A). Mills has put up eleven points in his last three games, and is now tied atop NORPAC for the most points among defensemen (16). Generals Assistant Captain Steven Slattery and Captain Justin Adams each had one goal and two assists on the night as they continue to put up big numbers. The Generals other Assistant Captain, Trent McKee, was also able to get on the board against the Wranglers. McKee scored two goals, and was the only Generals player to put up more than one on the board. Neil Holder was the sixth member of the Generals to have a multiple point night, as he was able to tally a goal and an assist. Kevin Aslett played big in the net for the Generals, and he stopped 36 of the Wranglers 39 shots.

The Generals will host the Coeur d’Alene Lakers Monday, October 15 at 5:50 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice. The game will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
