First Meeting Proves Victorious for Generals

Post Falls, ID – The Eugene Generals defeated the Coeur d’Alene Lakers 6-3 in their first matchup with the defending Rocky Mountain Division Champions of the 2006-07 season. Coeur d’Alene moved to the Pacific Division in NORPAC this season as a part of expansion and realignment in the league.

The Generals scored first with a shorthanded goal by Ben Wilks, his first of the season, early in the first period. The Generals would add another goal by Tyler Tymchuk before the close of the period, his fourth in four games. In the second period, Coeur d’Alene would battle back to tie score at three a piece after the Generals struggled defensively and allowed three goals. Dylan Woodring played well in net and kept Generals in the game during a barrage by the Lakers. Justin Adams had the only goal for the Generals in the second period.

Re-taking control in the third, the Generals would score three straight unanswered goals to take the victory 6-3 with goals from O’Connor, Lewis and Slattery. “After a long bus ride, it’s nice to see that the team could pull together and play and come back in the third,” said Generals Coach Chris Hartly, “we still need to figure out how to put 60 minutes of hockey together though.” Coeur d’Alene continued to struggle on the powerplay going 1-14 against a penalty prone Generals team. The Generals are fourth in the league in penalty minutes while only killing off 84.1% of penalties.

The Genreals face the Lakers Again tomorrow at 3:45 PM. Note the change in start time. Sunday's afternoon game against the Coeur d’Alene Lakers will be broadcast live on GiTV in audio only. For more information on upcoming games and GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
