Generals Get First Victory
Eugene, OR- After coming off a three game road skid the Eugene Generals finally get a win in their Home Opener against the Rogue Valley Wranglers. With a 5-1 victory over the Wranglers, the young Generals squad seems to be adjusting to the up-tempo style of play in Junior hockey. The much needed win brings the Generals record to 1-3, while the Rogue Valley Wranglers dropped to 0-3.
“The team looked a lot better tonight,” Eugene Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “They were working hard, but the biggest key was that they executed a lot better.”
In fact, the Generals kept Rogue Valley’s goalie busy with 47 shots on goal, five of which managed to find the net. Not only were the shots up from last weekends games, but they also managed to reduce the amount of time in the penalty box, accumulating 38 penalty minutes rather than the 54 minutes they had in a game against River City. They did manage to play better on special teams only allowing one goal in 11 tries. The Generals can still cut down on the penalties, but are looking better and better every time they step on the ice.
The Generals first period scoring woes came to an end fairly quickly tonight when George Arroyo assisted Sean O’Connor 1:09 into the period. They not only scored one goal, but managed to rack up four to start the game off. The Wranglers did manage to score a goal in the second period to cut the deficit to three, but the Generals quick start appeared to be too much for Rogue Valley. Justin Adams managed a goal and two assists for the Generals, while Marcus Stone and Steven Slattery added two points each with two assists and two goals respectively.
The Generals look to continue their winning ways against the Rogue Valley Wranglers Saturday at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice. The game will be broadcast live on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games, GiTV and the online ticketing promotion please visit eugenegenerals.com.
