Jaguars Pounce on Generals
Beaverton, OR- The Eugene Generals were beaten by the River City Jaguars for the second time in as many days. The two wins against the Generals totals as many wins as the Jaguars have had against the Generals in the last two seasons. The defeat gives the Generals a 0-2 record for the first time in the history of the franchise. Today, the Jaguars defeated the Generals by a score of 5-2, and once again held the Generals scoreless in the first two periods.
“We didn’t play disciplined today,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated.
“We were in the penalty box a lot, and that directly resulted in four of their five goals. The guys will have to stay out of the box tomorrow if we want to come away from the weekend with a win.”
In fact, the Generals had a total of 54 penalty minutes, which is almost an entire game worth of penalties. The Jaguars were able to capitalize on their opportunities, and after the first two games they scored 31.58% of the time when given an extra man opportunity. The Generals, on the other hand, have only been able to capitalize on 2 of 15 powerplay opportunities. The Generals must improve their special teams play, an must find a way to put the puck in the net early on in the game if they want to be a playoff team in the extremely competitive NORPAC Pacific Division. The good news is that the Generals are only two games into the season, and have some time to correct those issues.
The Generals were able to get on the board 6:37 into the third period when Sean O’Connor and Kyle Mills assisted Justin Mongrain. The Generals seemed to have some momentum, but the four goals put up by the Jaguars in the first two periods were just too much for the Generals to overcome. Sean O’Connor earned the Generals their second goal of the game when George Arroyo assisted him with 7:22 left in the game. The two goals sandwiched River City’s fourth, and final, powerplay goal of the night, but they were enough for the Generals to win their first period of the season.
The Generals will travel to Pasco, WA tomorrow to face the Tri-City Titans at 7:00 PM. The game will be broadcast on GiTV in audio only. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerls.com.
