Eugene, OR -The Eugene Generals (0-1) came out looking hot, scoring the first goal of the game, but fell short to the Southern Oregon Spartans (1-0). The Generals lost 5-1 to the Spartans in the first game of the season.

The Generals started the night out on the right foot with a goal from forward Chris Videto. Unfortunately, the Generals were not able to keep their lead for long. The Spartans notched two goals, 44 seconds apart, to take away Generals lead. By the end of the first period the score would be 3-1 Spartans.

In the second period, Spartans forward, Joey White, recorded his second point of the night by scoring an even strength goal on, Generals goalie, Corey Grummik. The rest of the period was scoreless, but both teams committed a considerable amount of penalties. With 1:16 left to play Christofer Videto took a cross checking penalty, which ignited Brandon Bronze; a Spartans defenseman. As a result of the cross check, Videto and Bronze jostled on the ice. Each player received a game misconduct for fighting.

The Spartans extended their lead in the third period when Linus Persson lit the lamp, and scored his first goal of the season. The third period was similar to the second, in that both teams committed several penalties.

In all the two teams racked up 187 minutes in penalties on the night.

Expect the Generals to learn from the mistakes they made tonight, and come out hungry for their first win of the season when they face the Spartans tomorrow night at the Lane County Ice Arena.
