Eugene, OR -Over the course of eight games during the 2011-12 season, the Eugene Generals will be hosting eight local schools for the first annual Generals Hockey Nights for Education (GHNE). In addition to the funds raised by each school, the Generals will award up to $1,000 to the winning school and school district.

In an effort to give back to the community, the Generals will give $1 from every ticket sold back to the school selected to attend that night’s hockey game. Each school will be given the opportunity to attend two games to fundraise for their school. The first game will be in November, and the second game will be in February. After the final GHNE game, the Generals have decided to donate up to $1,000 to the school, and school district that raises the most funds for themselves.

In the 2011-12 season, the Generals have elected to limit GHNE to the 4J, Bethel, Springfield, and Fern Ridge School Districts. Residents of each school district have the opportunity to nominate a school from within that district. The Generals are looking for schools who have been affected by budget cuts, and schools that will benefit from the fundraiser.

The GHNE nomination form must be filled out and turned in no later than Friday, Oct. 14, for a school to be considered. The Generals will determine which schools will be selected by Wednesday, Oct. 19.

After the schools have been selected by the Generals they will be assigned two games to attend over the course of the season.

All schools who participate will be eligible to watch the Generals at a practice. After the practice, members from each school can join the team on the ice and ice skate. The exact date this will occur will be decided upon later in the season.
