Generals Victorious in Round 1
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (3-1) clinched their Pacific Division Semi-Final Series on Friday night with a 4-2 win over the Tri-City Titans (1-3) in Game 4 of the series. The Generals had come up short in a 3-1 game the night before, but they were able to clinch their first playoff series since the 2007 season.
The Generals will now face the first seed Seattle Totems (3-1) in the Pacific Division Finals for the chance to play for the Cascade Cup, and the chance to earn the automatic Pacific Division bid to the National Tournament.
“Tri-City was a great opponent for the entire regular season and that didn’t change during the playoffs,” Generals head coach Jay Miller. “I’m really happy that we were able to get out of the first round, and I was happy with how our boys handled themselves down the stretch in Game 4. Right now we have to focus on Seattle. Seattle is a great team, and we will have to bring everything we have to beat them.”
The Generals took the early lead on Thursday, in their first series clinching chance, with a power play goal just 5:24 into the contest when Ryan McDonald and Blake Bishop assisted Eric Watters. That would be the only goal for the Generals in the game, however, as the Titans put up three unanswered goals in the game and forced a fourth game in the series.
The Generals would not squander another opportunity to clinch. The Generals started Game 4 with a goal scored by Ryan McDonald and assisted by Brendan Weimer 6:59 into the first period. McDonald would get his second of the game 13:20 into the first on the power play, and Neil Holder got the assist.
The Generals would take a 3-0 lead when Blake Bishop and Brad Main assisted Mat Topolewski 8:11 into the second period for the eventual game-winner. The Titans would get two back later in the second, but Neil Holder and Blake Bishop assisted Brad Main with just 33 seconds left in the contest to seal it up.
The Generals will travel to Mountlake Terrace, WA tomorrow for Game 1of the Pacific Division Finals against the Seattle Totems at 8:00 PM. Game 2 will be in Mountlake Terrace on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. The Generals will then travel home for Game 3 on Friday at Lane Events Center-Ice at 7:35 PM. Game 4 (if necessary) will also be in Eugene on Saturday at 7:35 PM.
