Generals to Host Totems for Hockey Weekend Across America
Eugene, OR – The NORPAC Pacific Division leader Eugene Generals (31-6) will host the second place Seattle Totems (30-8) this Friday and Saturday at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice for Hockey Weekend Across America. Over the weekend the Generals have a myriad of events.
On Friday, which is “Wear Your Jersey Day”, the Generals every member of the Generals will be wearing his jersey around the Eugene/Springfield area. On Saturday, which is “Bring a Friend to the Rink Day”, the Generals will have events during and after the game.
During the game the Generals will have four hockey stations: a hockey gear station, a hockey shooting station, a hockey stick-handling station and a hockey information booth. After the game the Generals will split the ice into three areas. The first area will be learn to skate for first time skaters, the second area will be a hockey skills clinic for previous skaters, and the third area will be small area games.
“This is a great chance for the community to learn a little more about, and get a chance to try, hockey,” Generals GM Flint Doungchak stated. “Hockey is on the upswing in Lane County, Oregon and all across the United States, and we want to give people who have never had the chance to play hockey an opportunity to learn a little more about the game. The Generals want to encourage anybody and everybody who have been interested in hockey, but never got out there and played, to come down to the rink this weekend and give it a try.”
Hockey as become such a part of Oregon, that Governor Kulongoski named January 29-31 “Hockey Weekend Across Oregon” on January 20, 2010. A portion of the Proclamation is as follows:
“Whereas: USA Hockey, the governing body for amateur hockey in the United States has proclaimed the weekend of January 29-31, 2010 as ‘Hockey Weekend Across America’ in recognition of the wonderful history, current attributes, and boundless future for the sport of hockey in North America. Now therefore: I, Theodore R. Kulongoski, Governor of the State of Oregon, hereby proclaim January 29-31 to be ‘Hockey Weekend Across Oregon’ in Oregon and encourage all Oregonians to join in this observance.”
