Generals Defeat Titans in Shootout Thriller
Eugene, OR – The NORPAC Pacific Division leader Eugene Generals (29-6) were able to defeat the Tri-City Titans (17-19) 4-3 in the Generals first shootout game of the season. This was the second OT game of the season, and the second OT game of the season against the Tri-City Titans. The Generals fell in their first OT game of the season 5-4 in the first OT.
“I’m really proud of the way we pulled together late in the game,” Generals head coach Jay Miller stated after the contest. “I’m not going to say that I’m happy with the way we played for the majority of the game, but it is great experience for our boys to play a game that tightly contested. I don’t want to take anything away from the way the Titans played. They were able to capitalize on their opportunities, and they fought hard tonight.”
The Generals fell into an early hole in the first period. The Titans were able to get on the board just 20 seconds into the contest, and they were able to take a 2-0 lead just a little over 2 minutes into the game. The Generals would make it a 2-1 game 14:03 into the first when Peter Mingus assisted Brad Main.
The Generals would knot the game up at 2 when Eric Watters scored an unassisted goal 1:29 into the second period. The Titans would retake the lead 17:43 into the second, and the Generals would enter the third period down one goal.
The Generals would go almost the entire third period without a tying goal, despite outshooting the Titans 17-8. The Generals would get that game-tying goal with 6 seconds left in the game when Arram Chinarian and Eric Watters assisted Blake Bishop.
The Generals outshot the Titans 4-2 in the first 5:00 4-on-4 OT and they outshot the Titans 9-5 in the second 5:00 3-on-3 OT, but they could not put the puck in the net. The Generals would score on their first of 3 shooters in the shootout when Neil Holder lifted the puck over the extended glove of the Titans goaltender, but would not get another. That wasn’t a problem for the Generals however, as Generals goaltender Dylan Woodring was up to the task.
The Generals will host the Titans tomorrow at 7:35 PM and they will host the River City Jaguars at 7:35 PM on Sunday. The games will be broadcast on EGHN. For more information on upcoming games or EGHN please visit eugenegenerals.com.
