Generals go 1-2 in NORPAC Showcase
Eugene, OR The Eugene Generals (26-5) went 1-2 in the inaugural NORPAC Showcase, which was held in Billings, MT. The games were the first games the Generals have played against the America West Division since the 2005/06 season.
The Generals fell to the defending Cascade Cup Champion Helena Bighorns (31-3) 6-1 in their opening game, but rebounded with an 8-4 victory over the Butte Roughriders (3-31). The Generals had a chance to take a winning record out of the showcase, but fell to the Yellowstone Quake (23-10) 8-1 in their final game in Billings, MT.
I think this was a great experience for our players, Generals head coach Jay Miller stated. The three games in the showcase exposed some of our weaknesses, and now we can focus on correcting those areas of our game. Our team will really use this as a learning experience, and we will come out a better team for it.
The Generals had twelve different players earn points on the weekend. Ryan McDonald led the way with two goals and an assist, and Brad Main had a goal and two assists. Blake Bishop had two goals on the weekend. Tyler Poulsen, Ray Frianeza and Christian Merritt each had a goal and an assist. Arram Chinarian and Kyle Kennedy both had a goal, and Brayden Lahti, Sean Park, Neil Holder and Eric Watters each had an assist.
The Generals will travel to Bremerton, WA and Mountlake Terrace, WA for games against the Puget Sound Tomahawks and the Seattle Totems. The Generals will face the Tomahawks on Thursday at 7:35 PM, and they will face the Totems on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 PM. The games will be broadcast on EGHN in audio only.
