Generals Defeat Wranglers on New Years Eve
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (24-3) defeated the Rogue Valley Wranglers (4-25) 5-3 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice to take sole possession of first place in the NORPAC Pacific Division, and in the process clinched their third season series of the year. The win was the closest contest against the Wranglers in the three seasons the Wranglers have been a franchise.
“I’m happy that we were able to get two points tonight,” Generals head coach Jay Miller stated after the contest. “We had a little bit of rust to shake off after the break, but we seemed to pull things together in the third period. Rogue Valley has drastically improved since the last time we saw them, and every game from here on out should be a battle.”
The Generals and Wranglers didn’t score a goal in the first period. The Wranglers scored immediately in the second period, but Christian Merritt assisted Ryan McDonald for a shorthanded goal 4:51 into the frame. The Generals would take their first lead of the game 10:25 into the second on the power play when Brad Main assisted Christian Merritt. However, the Wranglers would knot things up before heading into the third.
The Generals would take their second lead of the game 1:40 into the third when Neil Holder and Eric Watters assisted Sean Park. The Wranglers would tie things up for the second time 5:30 into the period, but Brad Main would score the game winner 9:30 into the period with the assists going to Sean Park and Ray Frianeza. Main would get his second of the game 12:55 into the third to finish the Wranglers chances. Christian Merritt had the assist on the play.
The Generals will travel to Medford, OR on Saturday to face the Wranglers at 7:30 PM. For more information on upcoming games please visit eugenegenerals.com.
