Generals Clinch Second Season Series
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (20-3) were able to clinch their second season series of the year with a 5-2 win over the Puget Sound Tomahawks (8-15) at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals have defeated the Tomahawks in all five meetings this season, and will have a chance to take a 7-0 season series lead next weekend in Eugene.
“We didn’t play our best game today, but we were still able to come away with two points,” Generals head coach Jay Miller stated. “We made a couple of big mistakes in the second period and it cost us, but we were able to capitalize on our opportunities. I’m really happy we were able to clinch our second season series, and we will have a chance to see these guys two more times next weekend.”
The Generals took a 1-0 lead 7:49 into the first period when Brad Main and Blake Bishop assisted Eric Watters on the power play. There would be no more scoring in the first period, but the second period would see much more scoring.
The Generals would take a 2-0 lead when Tyler Poulsen put the puck in the net 2:54 into the period. Peter Mingus and Sean Park got the assists. Justin Huelsman scored his first goal of the season to give the Generals a 3-0 lead, and Ray Frianeza and Mat Topolewski were given the assists.
Puget Sound would score two consecutive goals to make it a one goal game, but Blake Bishop assisted Tyler Poulsen on the power play with under 30 seconds to play in the period to give the Generals a two goal lead heading into the third period.
Poulsen and Christian Merritt assisted Peter Mingus on the power play with four seconds left in the contest to make the final score 5-2.
The Generals will host the Tomahawks next Friday and Saturday at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice, and they will host the River City Jaguars next Sunday at 7:35 PM for the Generals last game before a 10 day break. The games will be broadcast on EGHN. For more information on upcoming games or EGHN please visit eugenegenerals.com.
