Generals Partner with Foster and Adoptive Parent Association
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals announced earlier today that they have partnered with the Foster and Adoptive Parent Association (FAAPA). The Generals volunteered for FAAPA last holiday season collecting boxes of Christmas presents for the Annual Foster Family Christmas Party, and they have decided to take an even bigger role this year.
“Most of these kids have never really gone to a sporting event, and that is really sad,” Generals GM Flint Doungchak stated. “They’re kids that get shifted around from home to home. A foster child may be placed with a foster family, go back to their biological parents, and later be placed with another foster family. Some foster families have up to 10 kids in their home, and I believe that their dedication to those kids is amazing. We just want to show these kids and their families a good time, and give them a chance to see a hockey game.”
The Generals will be once again picking up donation boxes on December 8 around the Eugene/Springfield area, and they will have a shooting station and will be volunteering at the Annual Lane County Foster Family Christmas Party. The Generals will have donation boxes at three home games (Friday, November 13 vs. Rogue Valley, and Friday and Saturday, November 27-28 vs. River City) for Christmas present donations. The Generals will also be donating a ticket to every foster child and a ticket to every member of their foster family to FAAPA for their Hockey Weekend Across America game against the Rogue Valley Wranglers on January 13.
“I’m really excited about the partnership,” Board Member and Foster/Adoptive Parent of Lane County Barbie Turner exclaimed. “The Generals helped pick up the toy boxes last year, and we’re grateful to have them help this year. We’re also grateful to have the Generals help at the Christmas Party. It’s also a wonderful opportunity or the children and their families to get tickets to see a Generals game. We’re excited to have the partnership working, and we’re excited to have the Generals on board.”
More than 600 kids ranging from infant to 18 years old were provided with gifts at last year’s Christmas Party, and this year FAAPA hopes to do even better! Without these donations many of these kids would not have the special Christmas experience that every child should enjoy. The following is a list of donations FAAPA needs the most: cash or $15 gift cards, bin locations for collecting toys, passes for local activities such as sporting events, movies, skating and swimming, new books for children of all ages and wrapping paper and wrapping supplies. Checks can be made payable to FAAPA and mailed directly to PO Box 71531, Eugene, OR 97401. A donation receipt for tax purposes is available upon request, with your donation. If you have any questions contact Barbie Turner at (541) 914-2244.
