Generals Toppled by Totems
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (10-3) were upended by the Seattle Totems (10-4) last night 8-3 at Olympic View Ice Arena in Mountlake Terrace, WA. The loss brings Seattle to within one game of the Generals in the nine game season series.
The Generals still hold a 3-2 series lead with 4 games remaining. The Generals and Totems are now tied atop the NORPAC Pacific Division standings, but the Generals hold the head-to-head tie-breaker and have a game in hand over the Totems.
"The Totems were the better team on the ice tonight," Generals head coach Jay Miller stated after the game. "We couldn't stick to our systems, and the Totems capitalized on almost every opportunity we gave them. The Totems force us to bring our best game to beat them, and we couldn't accomplish that last night. Seattle is a great team, and we will battle it out with them for the remainder of the season."
The Totems were able to take a 3-0 lead in the first period before Eric Watters was assisted by Kyle Mills and Ryan McDonald on the power play with 13 seconds remaining in the first period. The Totems were once again able to put three goals up in the second period to take a 6-1 lead, but the Generals had no answer.
Seattle took a 7-1 lead in the third period, but the Generals were finally able to get a couple goals on the board in the third. Ryan McDonald and Tyler Poulsen assisted Blake Bishop 8:47 into the period to make it 7-2, but the Totems were able to get one more just three minutes later. The Generals scored the final goal of the game 14:27 into the third period when Neil Holder assisted Sean Park on the power play.
The 5 goal loss marks the Generals worst defeat of the season. The Generals had lost their two other games by a combined 3 goals.
The Generals will host the Rogue Valley Wranglers this Friday at 7:35 PM for BI-Mart Half-off Night. Anybody who brings their Bi-Mart card will receive half-off of any single game ticket purchases for the night. The game will be simulcast on EGHN and INFO 1320.
