Generals Defeat Jaguars to Take First

Eugene, OR - The Eugene Generals (8-2) defeated the River City Jaguars (4-6) 4-2 last night at Valley Ice Arena in Beaverton, OR to take sole possession of first place in the NORPAC Pacific Division. The meeting was the first time the two teams have played since River City gave the Generals an early exit from the playoffs last season.

“We played a little sloppy tonight on 5-5, but we played well on special teams,” Generals head coach Jay Miller stated. “We started to play more disciplined hockey last night, and we were able to come away with two points. Its nice to get back on the winning side of things against this team, and we’ll have to come out twice as hard tonight.”

The Generals did play much better on special teams last night. They held the Jaguars scoreless on four power play opportunities, and they were able to tally a goal on their only power play opportunity. Dylan Woodring also played well in net, stopping 31 of the 33 shots the Jaguars fired his way.

The Generals were able to get on the board early in the game. At just 1:05 into the game Trevor Ruiz and Connor Bambico assisted Peter Mingus to give the Generals the lead, and that would be a lead the Generals would not relinquish.

The game remained 1-0 until 6:46 of the second period when Blake Bishop was assisted by Brad Main for a power play goal, and a two goal lead. The Jaguars would get one back just 30 seconds later, but the game would head to the third period with the Generals leading 2-1.

The Generals would once again make it a two goal contest 7:13 into the third when Kyle Kennedy assisted Christian Merritt for the Generals third goal of the game. The Generals would put the game away with just a little more than five minutes remaining when Tyler Poulsen assisted Mat Topolewski to make it 4-1. The Jaguars would get on the board one more time, but they didn’t have enough for the Generals in the end.

The Generals will host River City tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice at 7:35 PM. There will be a Skate with the Generals after the game. The game will be simulcast on EGHN and INFO 1320. For more information on upcoming games or EGHN please visit eugenegenerals.com.
