Generals Handed Biggest Loss of the Season

Eugene, OR - The Eugene Generals (35-8) were handed their biggest loss of the season tonight in a 5-1 defeat by the Seattle Totems (36-6). The Totems now hold a two point lead over the Generals in the Pacific Division, and have evened the eight game season series at three games a piece. The Generals and Totems will meet two more times this season, next Sunday and Monday, to determine the season series winner, and possibly the first seed in the 2009 NORPAC Pacific Division Playoffs.

“It seems like the wins have come with minimal effort on our part lately,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated after the game. “I don’t think the team was ready to have to work hard for this one. All we can do is learn from this game, and we’ll see [Seattle] next week.”

Kyle Stoumbaugh led the Totems with two goals and an assist, and Spencer Galvin had two goals. Shawn Pauly added a goal and an assist for the Totems. The only goal for the Generals was scored 6:37 into the third period on the power play, and was scored by Michael Schlagel and assisted by Carl Lehtola.

The Generals did outshoot the Totems 33-31 on the night, but were unable to get the puck past Totems goaltender Miles Klingenberg. Kevin Aslett made 26 saves in the loss.

The Generals will travel to Medford, OR next Friday for a game against the Rogue Valley Wranglers at 7:30 PM. The game will be broadcast on GiTV in audio only. The Generals will also face Seattle next Sunday and Monday at Lane Events Center-Ice at 5:50 PM. Monday will be Fan Appreciation Night. The two games against Seattle will be broadcast on GiTV.
