Generals Earn 30th Win of Season against Tomahawks

Eugene, OR - The Eugene Generals (30-7) won their 30th game of the season tonight as they defeated the Puget Sound Tomahawks (16-19) 3-1 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals were outshot (32-26) for only the tenth time this season tonight, and are now 5-5 when being outshot in games this season. The game tonight was the final meeting between the Generals and Tomahawks during the regular season. The Generals won the season series 5-2.

“We didn’t play great hockey tonight, but we were able to come away with the win,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated after the game. “I don’t like to win that way, but we’ll take a win any way we can get it. Puget Sound is fighting for their playoff lives, and it was great to give them two losses on the weekend. We have to focus on our games next weekend, and start playing better systems.”

The Generals and Tomahawks played to a 0-0 tie heading into the second period, but Eric Watters would break the tie 4:19 into the second. Chad Vivian would make it a 1-1 game 7:33 into the second with his second goal of the season, and the assists were given to Hurley Kane and Jordan Roberts. Michael Schlagel would assist Michael Frei with 1:14 remaining in the second to give the Generals a one goal lead.

Blake Bishop was assisted by Neil Holder and Ryan McDonald 14:20 into the third for the only goal of the period, and the Generals would walk away with the win. Kevin Aslett was able to turn away 31 of the 32 shots he faced, and was able to bolster his league leading .930 SV%. Aslett also earned his league leading 21st win of the season.

The Generals will travel to Post Falls, ID and Kennewick, WA next weekend for games against the Coeur d’Alene Lakers and Tri-City Titans. The Generals will face the Lakers at 7:20 PM next Friday, and will face the Titans at 7:05 PM next Saturday. The games will be broadcast in audio only on GiTV.
