Generals to Host Red Hot Puget Sound

Eugene, OR - The Eugene Generals (28-7) will host the Puget Sound Tomahawks (16-17) this weekend at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals are currently tied for first place in the NORPAC Pacific Division with the Seattle Totems, who have one game in hand, and the Tomahawks are currently tied for the fourth and final playoff position with the Tri-City Titans, but the Tomahawks do have two games in hand over the Titans.

The two games against the Tomahawks this weekend will mark the final two meetings between the teams during the 2008/09 NORPAC Regular Season. The Generals have a 4-2 season series lead, but four of the six games have been decided by one goal. The Tomahawks will be riding high this weekend after a weekend sweep of the first place Totems, and will be pushing to win as many as they can in their final 15 games to try to ensure a spot in the playoffs.

“The Tomahawks have always played us tough, and they have really pushed us this season,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated. “They are going to come in very confident after giving Seattle their first back-to-back losses of the season, and we will have to play great hockey to win these games. We have to stay out of the box, focus on our defensive zone and play our systems. If we do that, I am very confident that we can come away from this weekend with four points.”

The Generals are 8-2 in their last ten games, and have posted a 5-1 record in the month of January. The one loss the Generals have suffered this month came in their last game. The Generals are now in the top spot in NORPAC with a 90.23% penalty killing percentage, and are in fifth with a 19.63% power play percentage. The Generals also lead the league with +40 on special teams. The closest team to the Generals in this category is the Helena Bighorns with +26.

The games against the Tomahawks this Friday and Saturday at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
