Generals Fall in OT on Military Appreciation Night
Eugene, OR - The Eugene Generals (28-7) were handed their second loss at home this season in a 2-1 overtime thriller against the River City Jaguars (18-13) tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice for Military Appreciation Night presented by US Army. The loss was the first loss to the Jaguars in five meetings this season.
“The puck just didn’t bounce our way tonight,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated after the game. “I feel like we deserved to win the game, but River City was able to capitalize on the opportunities they were given. I am very disappointed with the outcome of the game. We need to forget this game ever happened and start focusing on next weekend.”
The Generals were able to get on the board 11:28 into the first period when John Strahle fired a puck past Jaguars goaltender Sean Buckley. The second period failed to see any scoring, and the Jaguars were able to knot the game at one 8:04 into the third when Kevin Nighbert assisted Erik Mathies. James Abudakar was given an assist by Jacob Longoria 3:01 into the first overtime period to clinch the game for the Jaguars.
Both goaltenders played tremendous hockey, as Kevin Aslett turned away 37 shots in the loss and Sean Buckley saved 41 in the win.
The Generals will host the Puget Sound Tomahawks next Friday and Saturday at Lane Events Center-Ice at 7:35 PM. The game will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
