Generals Clinch Tie with Win over Jaguars
Eugene, OR - The Eugene Generals (28-6) were able to clinch an eight game season series tie with a 6-3 win over the River City Jaguars (17-13) tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals have won all four meetings between the two teams this season.
“We had another bad first period, but were able to pull it together for the second and third periods,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated after the game. “It was great to see [Nolan] Ohmart have a good game in net after a fairly long layoff. We have to focus on the game tomorrow, and try to put three solid periods of hockey together.”
The Generals were able to outshoot the Jaguars 40-32, and were able to capitalize on two of their seven power plays. The Jaguars failed to score on twelve power play opportunities on the night.
Kyle Mills scored the only goal for the Generals in the first 8:31 into the period, which gave the Generals 1-0 lead. River City scored two goals to finish off the period, but the Generals would get things going in the second.
The Generals evened the game at two 1:40 into the period when Blake Bishop assisted Michael Schlagel on the power play. The Generals would get the lead on their second power play goal of the game just 20 seconds later when Ryan McDonald assisted Joe Myers. Michael Frei would get the game winner 48 seconds later with the assists going to Ben Charlson and Schlagel. Ryan McDonald would give the Generals their fourth goal of the period 17:00 in, and Carl Lehtola was given the assist.
The Generals would make it a 6-2 game 4:48 into the third when Tyler Poulsen assisted Frei for his second of the game. The Jaguars would get one more to make it a 6-3 game, but the Generals were too much for the Jaguars on this night. Nolan would make 29 saves in the win.
The game tomorrow at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice against the Jaguars is Military Appreciation Night presented by US Army. The game will be broadcast on GiTV.
