Generals Split in Seattle
Eugene, OR - The Eugene Generals (21-6) split their final two games in Mountlake Terrace, WA of the 2008 NORPAC Regular Season against the Seattle Totems (23-4). The top two teams have battled all season long, and at this moment the Generals have a 3-2 season series lead. The final three games of the eight game season series will be held at Lane Events Center-Ice in Eugene.
“We accomplished our goal of splitting with the Totems in their arena, but I feel like we could have come away with at least one more victory in their barn,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated. “I was really pleased with how our team battled back on both nights, and I was ecstatic with our win on Friday.”
On Friday the Generals trailed 2-0 heading into the second period. A goal by John Strahle with the assists going to Michael Frei and Joe Myers 1:10 into the period made a one goal game. Blake Bishop would tie the game at two 8:23 into the second on the power play. The assists on the goal would go to Michael Schlagel and Ryan McDonald.
The Totems would answer back with three straight goals, but the Generals would get one more before the end of the second. Bishop assisted McDonald with 25 seconds to go in the period, and that goal would give the Generals the push they needed in the third.
Tyler Poulsen and Frei would assist Schlagel 7:34 into the third to make it a one goal game, and McDonald’s second goal of the night, assisted by Carl Lehtola, would knot the game at five with a little under five to play in the contest. It appeared that the game make its way to the third overtime of the series, but with five seconds to go Neil Holder gave the Generals their fourth unanswered goal in the game and give the win to the Generals.
After arguably the most exciting game for the Generals this season, the team had a letdown on the second night. The Totems were able to score twice in the first minute, and the Generals were never able to recover. A minute into the third period the Totems had a 5-0 lead, but the Generals would get two goals in the third to make it a respectable score.
Michael Schlagel got the first for the Generals 4:28 into the third, and the assists were given to Michael Frei and Neil Holder. Joe Myers and Ben Charlson would assist Frei 12:09 into the period to make it a 5-2 game, but that would be the final goal in the contest. The loss was the first by more than one goal this season.
The Generals will head to Medford, OR this weekend to face the Rogue Valley Wranglers for the final two games in 2008. For more information on upcoming games please visit eugenegenerals.com.
