Generals Host Puget Sound for Two

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (2-0) will host the Puget Sound Tomahawks (0-2) tonight and tomorrow night at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice for both team’s second weekend of action of the young NORPAC 2008/09 Regular Season. The Generals easily defeated the Rogue Valley Wranglers (0-2) in their first two games of the season, and Puget Sound had two heartbreaking losses to the reigning Pacific Division Champion Seattle Totems (4-0) two weeks ago.

The Generals will be without NORPAC’s leading scorer in Michael Frei, who has seven goals in two games, for this weekend’s action as he will be in Switzerland.

“We have a couple of really tough games this weekend,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated. “Puget Sound has a lot of great players on the roster, and these two games should show us a lot about how the league is shaping up. We have to stay focused on the task at hand and the players we have for the games this weekend. I really love that we have a lot of depth on the roster this year, and even though (Michael) Frei is a great player I think the players we are sending out against Puget Sound this weekend will be fine.”

With the absence of Frei, the Generals will have to get great games out of their veteran leaders, great games out of their young stars and great games from their goaltenders.

Generals second year player, Sean O’Connor, is one of the players who has a chance to solidify himself as one of the best in NORPAC this weekend. O’Connor is currently fifth in NORPAC with five points, and is in second in the league with five assists. The Generals might also have rookie forward Michael Schlagel back in the lineup this week after a lower body injury kept him out of the lineup last weekend.

The Generals have the benefit of having two goaltenders that can go at any time. Both Kevin Aslett and Nolan Ohmart were given a start last weekend against Rogue Valley, and both only allowed one goal in their victories. Aslett had a .952 SV% in his start on Friday, and Ohmart had a .964 SV% in his start on Saturday.

The games this weekend should give the Generals a firm grasp on what they have to do in order to return to the NORPAC Pacific Division Playoffs for a fourth consecutive season. The games on Friday and Saturday at 7:35 PM will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
