Generals Score Five Straight in Victory Over Coeur d'Alene
Post Falls, ID - The Eugene Generals (12-4) scored five unanswered goals on their way to defeating the Coeur d'Alene Lakers (5-9) 5-2. The Generals began the first of 7 games which will take them on the road and will play the next 12 out of 14 games on the road. The Generals now extend their hold on second place over idle Puget Sound (8-8) by 8 points and trail the division leading Seattle Totems (14-2) by 4 points..
"We started out slow and that probably had a lot to do with bus legs, but it's still no excuse. Defensively, we were sloppy in the first and it cost us," said Head Coach Jay Miller, "but we still showed a lot of resolve and managed to get it back together in the second." The Lakers opened up the scoring at 8:15 of the first period with a goal by Rance Hughes who later followed up with his second goal of the night in the middle of the second period.
The Generals then took control as goaltender Kevin Aslett shut the door on the Lakers and Michael Frei scored on a slapshot that beat Lakers goaltender Branden Amatto over the glove. Frei would score again 4 minutes later with a quick snap shot. Then Frei's linemate, Micheal Schlagel would take the lead for the Generals with his 13th goal of the season. Carl Lehtola and Joe Myers had the other goals for the Generals.
Michael Frei, Joe Myers, Michael Schlagel, and John Strahle had multiple point nights and Kevin Aslett made 53 saves in the victory for the Generals
The Generals will face the same Coeur d' Alene Lakes at KYRO Arena at 7:20 PM tonight. The game will be broadcast on GiTV in audio only. For more information on upcoming games, special event nights or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
