Generals Drop First of Two to Tomahawks
Eugene, OR The Eugene Generals (2-1) were defeated by the Puget Sound Tomahawks (1-2) 2-3 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The game tonight was very hard-fought by both teams, but the pucks seemed to bounce the Tomahawks way just a little more than the Generals way tonight.
The Tomahawks played a great game, and they hustled like crazy, Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated. Im very unhappy with the loss, but I see a lot of upside in my team. If we would have got a couple of more bounces or our passes were a little better, I think we would have walked away with the victory. If we stick to our systems and clean a few things up tomorrow we should have a great shot at coming away with a split this weekend.
The scoring was started when John Bennewitz assisted Cassidy Hudkins on a 3-on-2 with 4:22 left to go in the first period. The would be the end of the scoring in the first, but Neil Holder would score the lone goal of the second period on the power play when he tipped a Blake Bishop slap shot. Kyle Mills was also given an assist on the play.
The Generals looked like they had taken control of the game when John Strahle, who was assisted by Joe Myers and Ian Evans, scored the Generals second power play goal of the game to give the home team a 2-1 lead with 14:59 left to go in the contest. However, Keith Tessin assisted Travis Belohrad with 9:54 left to go in the game to tie the score at two a piece. The Tomahawks would get the game winner with 4:13 left to play in the game when Tessin added his second assist to Rafal Plonski.
The Generals will have a chance to exact their revenge tomorrow night at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice. The game will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
