Generals Take Two from Wranglers
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (2-0) defeated the Rogue Valley Wranglers (0-2) 9-1 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals didn’t overlook the Wranglers in either game this weekend as they were able to outscore Rogue Valley 19-2 on the weekend. The Generals all-time record against the Wranglers is now 10-0, and the Wranglers all-time record on the road is stretched to 0-26.
“I was happy with the win tonight, but we have a lot to work on before Puget Sound next weekend,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller said after the game. “We took a lot of penalties we didn’t need to take tonight, and that will have to change when we go up against a team that can capitalize on the power play. On the bright side, I think this was a great experience for some of our young players. Junior hockey is different from Midget hockey, and our new guys did a pretty good job of adjusting to the speed of the game.”
The player of the game for the Generals was once again Michael Frei. Frei scored four goals, two of them shorthanded, on the night, and he now has a league leading seven goals on the season. Sean O’Connor added three assists, and Ian Evans, John Mullin and John Strahle each added two assists. Kyle Mills had two goals in the game, and Ricky Cigile, Kyler Zimick and Joe Myers each had a goal. Carl Lehtola also had an assist on the night.
For the second night in a row the Generals had a great time on special teams, and got great goaltending. The Generals scored two goals on the power play, and added two shorthanded goals. The Generals were also able to hold the Wranglers to zero special team’s goals on the weekend, while the Generals tallied eight. Nolan Ohmart was in net for the Generals, and he was able to stop 27 of the 28 shots on net.
The Generals will host the Puget Sound Tomahawks next Friday and Saturday at Lane Events Center-Ice at 7:35 PM. The games will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
