Generals Corral Wranglers in Home Opener
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (1-0) defeated the Rogue Valley Wranglers (0-1) 10-1 in their home opener tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The win pushes the Generals record to 9-0 all-time versus the team from Medford, OR, and the Wranglers still remain winless on the road. The Generals are now 4-0 all-time in home opening games, and 3-1 in season opening games.
“I’m happy with the outcome, and for the most part I’m happy with how our guys played today,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated. “I don’t want our guys to get lackadaisical, however, and we need to come out with the same fire tomorrow as we did today. There were a few mistakes out there, and we got a little sloppy in the third period. That is to be expected in a first game, and I think we’ll be able to fix those mistakes tomorrow.”
The two stars for the Generals tonight were Michael Frei and Eric Watters. Frei opened the game with three goals, and brought the veteran leadership the team needed in the early going of the game. Eric Watters earned a hat trick in his first career Generals game, and two of the goals came on the powerplay.
Beside Frei and Watters, four other Generals had multiple point nights. Carl Lehtola had a goal and an assist, and Sean O’Connor, Trevor McCarty and Joe Myers each had two assists. Johnathan Isbell, Neil Holder and Ryan McDonald each had goals on the night, and Blake Bishop and Kyler Zimick each had assists. Kevin Aslett played a solid game in net for the Generals, only allowing one goal on 20 shots.
The brightest spot on the night for the Generals was special teams. The Generals scored two shorthanded goals, and two powerplay goals. The Generals will look to keep the momentum going tomorrow night when they face the Wranglers at 7:35 PM at Lane Events Center-Ice.
Tomorrow nights game against Rogue Valley will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
