Driscoll Commits to Bethel University

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals announced earlier today that former Generals goaltender Garrett Driscoll has committed to the Division III Bethel University Royals of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). The 6-4 215 lb goaltender from Hemet, CA was signed by the Generals in their inaugural 2005/06 season, and returned to the team during the middle of the 2007/08 season.

In his first stint with the Generals, Driscoll played in 24 games and had a 16-7 record. He accumulated a 3.40 GAA and a .881 SV%. During the 2007/08 season with the Generals Driscoll played in four games in the regular season, and had an 0-2 record with a 6.91 GAA and a .856 SV%. Driscoll also played 2 games in the 2008 NORPAC Playoffs, and had a 1-1 record with a 4.96 GAA and a .885 SV%.

“Ultimately the Generals are a franchise that helps players set their sights on the future, not just in hockey but in education,” Generals GM Flint Doungchak stated. “I’m excited for Garrett, as a new door has opened that allows him to pursue not just hockey excellence but academic excellence. It speaks well of the Generals to know that we had a little bit to do with opening those doors.”

Driscoll will try to help the Royals, who finished with a 16-7-2 record and a second place MIAC finish, improve upon their standing in the 2008-09 season. The Bethel University Royals, and Driscoll, will open up their 2008-09 season with a non-conference game October 31 against University of Minnesota Crookston.

“I’m pretty pumped about playing for, and going to school at, Bethel,” Driscoll said. “I’ve been out of school for about three years, and I’m excited to continue my academic education. My role with the team will be pushing the starting goaltender. I hope I can bring a lot of competition for him, and help the team in any way I can. Hopefully I’ll get a decent amount of games this season, and I look forward to a great career at Bethel.”
