Generals Tender Minnesota Native Schlagel

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals announced earlier today that the team has tendered Michael Schlagel, an 18 year old forward from Fridley, MN. The 5-9 165 lb forward played for Totino-Grace High School last season and had 17 goals, 23 assists and 56 PIM in 26 games last season for the Eagles.

“Michael comes to us highly recommended from coaches we have great respect for,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated. “He [Schlagel] will bring an element of speed, and hopefully provide a lot of points this season. I expect to have him come to our team with great work ethic and great character, which is something we demand from every player we have on our team.”

Schlagel showed “The Team before me” attitude last season with Totino-Grace as he won the 2008 Hobey Baker High School Character Award which exemplifies character, commitment, teamwork, persistence, selflessness, academic excellence and sportsmanship. The award started in 2003 and supported by high school coaches, this award is presented to the player on each High School team that most exemplifies the values and traits of Hobey Baker himself.

“It feels good to be tendered by the Generals,” Schlagel said. “It sounds like the Generals have a really good program, and it seems like a good place to play and further develop my hockey career. I really think I can bring speed, quickness, good playmaking ability, a hard shot and an exciting hip check to the Generals. I also think I can be a good setup man for the powerplay. This year I really hope to improve all facets of my game, and become good enough to play Division I college hockey. ”
