Charlson Becomes Generals First Tender from Texas

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals announced earlier today that they have signed Ben Charlson from the Alliance Bulldogs U16 AA in Dallas, TX to a tender. The 5-8 145 lb 16 year old defenseman from Coppell, TX is the Generals fifth tender of the 2008 off-season, and their first ever tender from the state of Texas.

“It’s widely known that there is talent coming out of Texas,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated. “I’m happy to see that we were able to tender a high character young player that’s willing to take the next step in his career.”

Coach Miller isn’t the only one excited about the tender from Texas. “It feels really good to be the Generals first tender from Texas,” Charlson said. “Texas is really growing in numbers and quality as far as hockey goes, and I’m proud to be a representative of Texas hockey for the Generals. I’m really looking forward to playing with the Generals, and I think it should be great hockey.”

Generals GM Flint Doungchak scouted Charlson at the BC Global Scouting Showcase in Burnaby, BC earlier this summer. “Ben is an eager young player with a lot of heart, packaged with a lot of skill,” Doungchak stated. “At first sight I was impressed with his overall ability as a defenseman, but, more importantly, after meeting both him and his parents I was really impressed with his attitude. He’s definitely the right kind of player for the Eugene Generals.”

It appears that the Generals have once again stuck with their strategy of tendering skilled character players with the Charlson tender. When asked what he thought he could bring to the team Charlson said, “Hard work, a good attitude and solid defense.” That no-frills to the point statement is the exact reason he should be the perfect fit for the Generals.
