Miller Named Generals Head Coach

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals announced earlier today that interim Head Coach (former Assistant Coach) Jay Miller has been named Head Coach of the Generals. Miller spent the last two seasons with the Generals as offensive and defensive Assistant Coach, and managed all of the statistical analysis for the team. Coach Miller is filling the open position after the resignation of former Head Coach Chris Hartly.

“I’m excited to start a new chapter in the Generals organization,” Generals Head Coach Jay Miller stated. “I feel that with the support from my coaching staff and the front office I am ready to take on the responsibilities of the Head Coaching position. I will continue to search for the great hockey players who have great work ethic and high character. By the time the season rolls around I believe we are going to put an exciting and character based product on the ice.”

Miller, a Colorado native, played youth hockey in Arvada. He then played for the University of Colorado (ACHA Division II) where he was a significant member, and player/president, of the Buffalos’ championship run in 2004. Miller then transferred to the University of Oregon to attend graduate school.

“Jay’s tenure as an assistant coach over the past two seasons has allowed him to grow as a coach and grow his knowledge of the game,” Generals GM Flint Doungchak said of Miller. “In the last couple of months he’s proven that he is the best candidate for the position of Head Coach. I know he understands the tradition and the values of the Eugene Generals, and I believe that he will uphold the tradition and values with excellence.”

Since taking over the interim Head Coaching position, Miller has tendered four players (Blake Bishop, AJ Flores, Tyler Poulsen and Johnathan Isbell), and has run the most successful Generals Alaska Open Camp to date. Miller also has a strong contingent of players coming to the Generals Main Camp in August.
