Generals Add Speed with Isbell Tender
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals tendered Arizona native Johnathan Isbell late last week. Isbell is the Generals fourth tender of the 2008 off-season, but the first outside of Colorado. Isbell played with the Flagstaff Avalanche in the Arizona High School Hockey Association (AHSHA), where he earned 1st Team All-State B Division honors with 37 goals and 21 assists in 20 games last season.
The 5-10, 165 lb. 18 year old Isbell was scouted by Generals interim Head Coach Jay Miller at the AHSHA Junior/Senior Showcase in April. “We’re excited to have Johnathan join our team,” Miller stated. “He was easily one of the top players in the showcase, and we look for him to make an immediate impact on the ice.”
Miller went on to say, “I know I sound repetitive when I say this, but we’ve made a concerted effort to find character players this off-season. We’ve met our expectations with every player we’ve tendered, and Johnathan is no exception. He is another high character player who has a great work ethic. He was the captain of his high school team, and I believe he has the potential to be a leader for our team next season.”
Isbell, who played high school hockey and midget hockey with former Generals forward Nate Schursky (committed to NCAA Div. II Franklin Pierce), can’t wait to come to Eugene. “I’m really excited and anxious to play with the Generals,” Isbell said. “Nate [Schursky] only had good things to say about the Generals, and I know playing for them will get me noticed by a higher Junior league or an NCAA team.”
Isbell also said, “I believe I can bring speed, and an offensive touch to the team. I’m definitely going to be working hard. I’ll be one of the hardest workers on the team.”
Isbell will join Generals hopefuls at Generals 2008 Main Camp in Eugene August 19-24. The selected group will try to improve on the Generals 2007/08 season record of 33-15 and a first round playoff exit.
