Generals Upended by Totems
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (31-12) were defeated by the Seattle Totems (41-5) in consecutive games last weekend. The Generals only managed two goals on the weekend, and gave up fifteen to the Totems. The Generals now only have five games to catch the NORPAC Pacific Division second place Tri-City Titans, who lead the Generals by two points. The Generals do have one game in hand over the Titans, and will meet the team from Pasco, WA one more time during the regular season.
“We didn’t execute, and we didn’t play with maximum effort,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “Seattle is a great team, and when you don’t play with maximum effort with great execution against the Totems the games most likely aren’t going to go your way. We’ll see them one more time this season, and we have to change how we played by that time.”
The Generals were shut out by the Totems on Friday night. The shutout was the Generals first regular season shutout in team history, and the first shutout since Game 4 of the 2005-06 Cascade Cup Finals against the Queen City Cutthroats (now Helena Bighorns). It was only the second time this season that the Generals had been held under two goals.
The Generals were miserable on special teams all weekend long, but especially on Friday. Of the eight Seattle goals, six of them came on special teams. The Totems went two for three on the powerplay, and put up a staggering four shorthanded goals. The Generals also gave up three special teams goals during their 2-7 Saturday loss, including one powerplay goal and two shorthanded goals. The Generals gave up six shorthanded goals in the two games against Seattle, which is only four short of how many the Generals had given up in their previous forty-one games.
Despite the losses the Generals will get the opportunity to tie the Tri-City Titans for second place in the Division this weekend. The Generals will face the fourth place River City Jaguars on Saturday at 7:00 PM and on Sunday at 4:00 PM in Beaverton, OR. The Generals will then travel to Pasco, WA for a 7:00 PM start against the Titans. The games this weekend will be broadcast on GiTV in audio only.
