Another Heartbreaker for the Generals

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (3-3) were defeated 6-4 by the Fort Vancouver Pioneers (6-0) in another heartbreaker. For the second night in a row the Generals had an excellent chance at bringing an end to the Pioneers winning streak, but tonight’s game was tougher to swallow for the Generals. The Generals came out firing in the first period, and had a 3-1 lead, but they were unable to finish the job. “I’m really at a loss for words right now,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “Our special teams are killing us right now, and we have to correct it immediately.”

Fort Vancouver was able to get the first goal of the game on a power play, but the Generals answered right away. Michael Frei assisted Steven Slattery thirty seconds after the Pioneer goal. That goal kick started the Generals as Ryan Schank and Larry Dankenbring both rattled off goals in the first period. The Generals were rolling, and looked as if they would run away with it, but that obviously wasn’t the case.

The Pioneers scored three goals in the second period to give them their second lead of the game, and that was a lead they would not relinquish. The fact of the matter is that the first three Pioneer goals were on the power play, and the Generals couldn’t recover. The Generals did make one last ditch effort when Ryan Schank scored to make it a one goal game, but the Generals gave up their sixth goal with a minute and a half left in the game. The games were just as good as advertised, but the Generals came up just a little short in both games.

The Generals will travel to Bremerton, WA next weekend to face the Puget Sound Tomahawks. The games will be on Friday and Saturday at 7:35 and will be broadcast in audio only on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
