Generals Honor Coach Freelad with Win

Eugene, OR – On a night when the Generals raised their fallen coach’s jersey to the rafters, the Eugene Generals came out victorious against the River City Jaguars. The Generals defeated the Jaguars by a margin of 5-3, and were able to capture their first victory of the 2006-07 season. “It was a hard-fought battle, but at the end of the game the scoreboard was in our favor,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “It was a pretty emotional night, but it feels great to get a win for Bobby.”

The Generals came out of the gates strong, with Ben Tikka and Michael Frei assisting Lucas Romero just 1:16 into the game. The Jaguars were able to tie it up at one a piece, but that was the last time the game would be knotted. Garrett Bossert, Ben Tikka, and Alex Ironside would all add goals in the first period to make the score 4-1, but River City was able to capitalize with 18 seconds left in the opening period to make it a 4-2 game.

After the firestorm of goals in the first period it looked to be a high scoring game, but that was not the case. There was only one goal scored in the second period, and one more in the third. Garrett Bossert and Lucas Romero assisted Michael Frei to give the Generals their fifth, and final, goal of the contest. River City was able to get one more goal past Nick Cimity, who was making his first start in net as a General, but one just wasn’t enough for the Jaguars.

The Generals will face the Jaguars tomorrow night at 7:35 at Lane Events Center-Ice. For more information on the upcoming games please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
