Final Home Stand Could Make or Break Generals
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (28-11) will host the Puget Sound Tomahawks (27-13) and the River City Jaguars (11-30) this weekend at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals will face the Tomahawks on Friday and Saturday night, with whom they are battling with the Fort Vancouver Pioneers for the top spot in NOR-PAC’s Western Division, and will play the Jaguars on Sunday afternoon. “Friday and Saturday will be a good indicator for the playoffs,” Generals Head Coach Robert Freeland stated. “It should be some exciting hockey for the fans, and we just have to remember to take care of business against Puget Sound and River City.”
The Generals have split their first six games with the Tomahawks, but have lost the last three. The Generals crushed Puget Sound in their first three meetings, but have had the tides turned on them in the last two, losing by a combined score of 16-5. The Generals will have to have to be on the top of their game to stop the Tomahawks, and keep NOR-PAC’s third leading scorer Carl Horten (first in game winning goals) off of the scoreboard.
The Generals cannot have a let down against the Jaguars on Sunday. The Generals faced the Tomahawks and Jaguars on the same weekend in October, and it ended in disaster for the Generals. The Generals dominated the Tomahawks on Friday 4-10, lost in overtime to the Tomahawks 5-6 on Saturday, and had a mental and physical letdown on Sunday against the Jaguars losing 6-8. This is a make-or-break weekend for both the Tomahawks and the Generals as only two points separate the two, and only six points separate the top three teams in the Western Division. If one team can come away from the weekend with both wins it should cement them as the team to beat for the Western Division playoffs.
The games next weekend against Puget Sound and River City will be broadcast live on GiTV at 7:35 Friday and Saturday, and 12:30 on Sunday on www.eugenegenerals.com. For more information on upcoming Generals games please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
