Generals Need Two This Weekend
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals need two wins this weekend against the Bozeman Blackhawks to maintain their lead in the NOR-PAC Western Division. The Generals hold a two point lead over the Puget Sound Tomahawks, and a four point lead over the Fort Vancouver Pioneers. The Tomahawks have one game in hand with the Generals, and the Pioneers have four games in hand. “We have a tough schedule heading into the playoffs,” Generals Head Coach Robert Freeland stated. “We’ll have to play our best to get one of the top two seeds in the Division, but we should go into the playoffs ready for action.”
The Generals do have a tough schedule heading into the playoffs. Eight of their final twelve games are against legit playoff contenders. The Generals are not the only team to have a tough road ahead, however. The Puget Sound Tomahawks face nine playoff teams in their final thirteen. The Western Division team with arguably the easiest road into the playoffs is the Fort Vancouver Pioneers. The Pioneers are only trailing the Generals in the Division by four points, and only six of their final sixteen games are against playoff teams. Fort Vancouver will play Puget Sound in four of those six games, which could cause enough havoc to place the Generals atop the standings at the end of the regular season.
The Generals will have to take care of business starting this weekend to put in that position, though. This weekend the Generals will face the Bozeman Blackhawks, who, in their first and only meeting of the season, upended the then undefeated Generals 8-4 in Bozeman. “We want to get two wins this weekend,” Generals Captain Ryan Schank said. “Bozeman is the only team we have a losing record with this season, and it isn’t sitting right with the team.” Bozeman will not give up the games easily, however. The Blackhaws are tied for second in the Eastern Division, and every game is crucial.
