Generals Hold Off Pioneers

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals edged out the Fort Vancouver Pioneers 5-4 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals killed off a 6 on 3 Fort Vancouver power play as time expired, and handed the Pioneers their eight loss of the season, the third of which to the Generals. “We’re happy to get the win, and with the effort our boys gave tonight,” Generals Assistant Coach Chris Hartly said. “The guys look refreshed, and ready to kick it into high gear for the rest of the season.”

Fort Vancouver opened the scoring in the first period when Ross Gale assisted Steve Beck with 1:51 left in the period. The Generals answered back 23 seconds into the second period with an unassisted goal by Trevor Johnson. The Generals took the lead 9:04 later when Trevor Johnson and Matt Vasilie assisted Ryan Schank. Fort Vancouver tied the game with 53 seconds left in the second period.

The Generals would rattle off three quick goals in the third period to take a 5-2 lead. Brad Meyers scored an unassisted goal 2:15 into the period. Kris Kranzky assisted Garrett Bossert 5:23 into the third, and Justin Kern and Larry Dankenbring assisted Alex Ironside 20 seconds later. Fort Vancouver would make a game of it when Axel Erasmie-Thor assisted Ryan Portlock who lifted the puck over Garrett Driscoll’s shoulder as he was falling to the ice. The Pioneers would get another less than two minutes later when Jake O’Neal and Axel Erasmie-Thor assisted Brad McCabe to make it a one goal game. The lead proved to be too much for Fort Vancouver to overcome, however, as the Generals clinched the season series against the Pioneers.

The game tomorrow will be broadcast live on GiTV on www.eugenegenerals.com. For more information on upcoming Generals games please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
