The Sprint to the Finish Begins

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals returned from their Holliday break on Tuesday refreshed and refocused. The Generals struggled before the break dropping five of their last ten games. The team ended on a fairly good note, however, by breaking the Fort Vancouver Pioneers 14 game winning streak on the 16th, and coming back from a three goal deficit on the 17th, only to lose in the final seconds of the game. “We really picked it up against the Pioneers,” Generals Head Coach Robert Freeland stated. “I think our guys know that they have to take their game to the next level when we play Fort Vancouver, and I’d look for them to do exactly that this weekend.”

The Generals will face that same Fort Vancouver team this weekend in Eugene. The Generals hold a 3-1 lead in the season series against the Pioneers, but every game has been close. In those four games only one has been decided by more than one goal, and the last two have been decided in the final 20 seconds of the game. Fort Vancouver will face the winless Crusaders of Kent tonight, and if they prevail, they will only trail the Generals by four points. The Pioneers will be looking to tie the Generals for the lead in NOR-PAC’s Western Division, and the Generals want to be the only team atop the standings. Eugene has held onto the lead for the duration of the season, and they will have to play their best hockey to maintain that lead.
