Generals Stunned By Butte
Eugene, OR – The Butte Rough Riders defeated the Eugene Generals 5-4 tonight in NOR-PAC’s biggest upset of the season. The Rough Riders snapped their 16 game losing streak, and doubled their total wins as the horn sounded to end the game. The Generals have split games in three of the last four weekends, and have now been defeated by three sub .500 teams. “I think our team overlooked Butte this weekend,” Generals Head Coach Robert Freeland stated. “If our team takes any team for granted we can be beat, and Butte proved that tonight.”
The Rough Riders scored 4:24 into the first period, giving them the early lead for the second night in a row. The Generals answered back eight minutes later when Michael Frei scored. Butte put their second and third goal in the net before the second period had hit three minutes. Michael Frei was assisted by Kris Kranzky to record his second of the night at 5:35 in the period to put the game within reach for the Generals. The final 14:25 of the second period was very hard fought, but no goals were allowed by either team.
The Generals came out fired up in the third period. Garrett Bossert were assisted by Kris Kranzky to tie the game up :47 into the period. Bossert was assisted by Frei and Kranzky two minutes later to give the Generals the lead. That would be the last goal from the Eugene Generals for the night. The Rough Riders scored 11:33 into the third, and added one more just 15 seconds later to seal the game.
The Generals will go on the road next weekend to face the Puget Sound Tomahawks. For more information on upcoming Generals games please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
