Scoring Bursts Propel Generals to Victory
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals defeated the Butte Rough Riders 8-4 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The win gives the Generals 19 on the season, while handing Butte their 25th loss. The game was much closer than the final score showed. “The win tonight was like getting a pink bike for Christmas when you asked for a blue bike,” Generals Assistant Coach Chris Hartly stated. “In the end you still get a bike, but you didn’t get the bike you wanted.”
The Generals came out of the gate slow, once again. Eugene allowed Butte a 3-1 early in the second period, while out shooting the Rough Riders 24-8. The Generals maintained control of the puck in the Rough Rider zone for the majority of the first and second period, but a few unlucky bounces of the puck, and excellent capitalization by Butte, gave the Rough Riders the early lead. The Generals game out with all cylinders running after Butte put their third in the net. The Generals scored five goals in ten minutes in the second period to give them a 6-3 lead.
Butte did get one more 6:19 into the third period to make the game much more interesting, but the Generals scored two more in thirty seconds to put Butte away for good. Kris Kranzky added three points to bring his league-leading total to 57. Matt Vasilie scored twice and had one assist, and earned player of the game honors for the third time in five games. The Generals will face Butte again tomorrow night at Lane Events Center-Ice at 7:35. For more information on upcoming Generals games please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
