Generals Defeat Queen City
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals defeated the Queen City Cutthroats 4-2 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals played solid defense and capitalized on their opportunities against the defending NOR-PAC Champion Cutthroats. “Queen City is a very good team,” Head Coach Robert Freeland Stated. “It was a very hard played game, and we are extremely happy to come out on top of this one.”
Goals seemed to appear every three minutes in the first period. In typical fashion, the Generals allowed the first goal of the game 3:13 into the period. The Generals answered three minutes later when Chris Orlowsky and Brad Meyers assisted Ben Tikka. Three minutes after the Tikka goal, Michael Frei was assisted by Kris Kranzky to put the Generals up 2-1. The second period saw little action, but Ben Tikka set up Matt Vasilie on a power play goal with 7:02 left in the period to give the Generals a two goal lead.
The third period was a very physical period without much scoring. The Generals did pick up one more when Paul Martin hit a breaking Matt Vasilie when the Generals were short handed. Queen City also picked up a fluke goal with :04 left in the game when Generals goalie Garrett Driscoll tripped as Danny Amos was firing a slap shot from the blue line. The Generals will host Queen City tomorrow at 7:35. For more information on upcoming Generals Games please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
