Generals Drop Second Straight
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals were defeated for the second time this weekend this afternoon at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals were overpowered (8-6) by the 4-9 River City Jaguars. This is only the third loss of the season for the Generals, but it is the Generals third loss in eight days. “We got outworked in every aspect of the game today,” Head Coach Robert Freeland stated. “It doesn’t matter how talented you are you just can’t win when you don’t work for it.”
River City came out gunning when Tom Stocklim-Enright and Jason Barone assisted Jon Medina 0:51 into the game. It took the normally high octane Generals over eight minutes to tie the game up. At the end of the first period the Generals lead River City 3-2 thanks to Generals Captain Ryan Schank, who had two huge goals late in the period. The Generals didn’t hold their lead for long as River City scored a shorthanded goal 3:05 into the period. The home team would come right back when Matt Vasilie scored on the power play thirty seconds later. The Jaguars would answer a minute later, and never look back.
With the weekend of games completed the Generals still sit atop the NOR-PAC standings, and still remain six points ahead of their closest Western Division competition. The last two days have left a sour taste in the mouths of the players as they lost to the second place Puget Sound Tomahawks and the second year River City Jaguars. The Generals will look redeem themselves next weekend when they travel to Portland to face the River City Jaguars. For more information please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
