Generals Suffer First Loss

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals lost their first game of the season tonight 8-4 to the expansion Bozeman Blackhawks at Valley Ice Arena in Bozeman, MT. The Blackhawks, who are 8-2 and first place in NOR-PAC’s Eastern Division, came out of the gate swinging as they put up four goals in the first period. The Generals, on the other hand, came out cold, and were only able to muster one. After the fourth goal Coach Freeland pulled starting goalie Garrett Driscoll, and replaced him with Brent Siedel.

The second period was a different story as the Generals rallied to make it a 5-3 game. That was the end of the comeback, however, as the Blackhawks tallied three quick goals midway through the third period. The Generals did score one more, but it was too little too late. “I have got to give credit to Bozeman,” Coach Freeland stated. “Our guys made a few mistakes early in the game, and the Blackhawks capitalized. Bozeman is a good team, and you can’t make mistakes against a team like that.”

Despite the loss, the Generals still remain atop the Western Division with an 8-1 record, but it drops them into a tie with the Blackhawks for the top spot in NOR-PAC. The Generals will look to redeem themselves tomorrow night in Helena when they face the defending NOR-PAC champion Queen City Cutthroats.
