Eugene Generals Go Pink
Eugene, OR – The third Friday in October each year is National Mammography Day. On this day, or throughout the month, women are encouraged to make a mammography appointment. In 2005, National Mammography Day will be celebrated on October 21, and the Eugene Generals have dedicated the 7:35 PM game against the Puget Sound Tomahawks Breast Cancer Awareness Night. “This is an incredible opportunity for our organization to give back to the community that has already given so much to us,” explained Generals Owner Ken Evans. The Generals have partnered with the American Cancer Society in their effort to promote early detection and help those impacted by the disease.
The Eugene Generals will be wearing limited edition pink Breast Cancer Awareness Night jerseys; five of which will be autographed and auctioned off in a silent auction during the game. The remaining 20 jerseys will be autographed and auctioned off on eBay. A portion of the proceeds of the auction will be donated to American Cancer Society. The Generals will also donate a portion of the gate proceeds to American Cancer Society.
Today, there is more hope than ever for people touched by breast cancer. 2005 marks more than 20 years that National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has educated women about early breast cancer detection, diagnosis and treatment. This year, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month’s most notable message is the importance of early detection through annual mammography screening for women over 40. Mammography screenings are a woman’s best chance for detecting breast cancer early. When coupled with new treatment options, mammography screenings can significantly improve a woman’s chances of survival.
Come support your Eugene Generals on October 21, 2005 as the team battles breast cancer and the Puget Sound Tomahawks.
